Web 1.0 vs web 2.0

When I was growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the web was pretty boring.  I can remember that most web sites were very similar and dull.  That was web 1.0, the framework for what was to come.
Web 1.0 was designed to give you the information you needed and nothing more.  There were definitely no frills.  The creation of web sites was also difficult due to HTML code, so there weren’t nearly as many resources online as there are today.
About halfway through the first decade of the 2000’s, what was to become formally known as web 2.0 began to take shape.  Web sites started to get more colorful, more graphically active.  Things such as DHTML made pages pop (sometimes too much; processors were painfully slow back then).  Web sites were all of a sudden, dare I say it, easy for the average person to create.  The web was evolving, and so were people.  In the olden days of web 1.0, people used computers as simple tools.  As 2.0 took over, they became much more personal.  The web became a place to meet others, share ideas, and express one’s self.
As the years roll on, we are definitely going to see another evolution of the web; web 3.0.  It will be an extension of the web we know today.  It will be even more user friendly, helpful, creative, and vast.  The web will become invaluable… even more so than today.

  3. Well put. I totally remember computers back in the day. I remember my brother trying to teach me how to use a mouse. The web didn't seem boring and simple at the time, but looking back, it really was.

As for Web 3.0, it's going to be intense! It might as well be a living organism. Computer's are going to have personalities and you will be able to send anything via e-mail. We will be sending scents, feelings, and tastes through the web. Forget the post office, because we'll be sending our mail-mail through e-mail, too. Well, maybe. Soon, Google will take over the world, the World Wide Web and reality will switch places, and we will be known as the powerless human race.
